Hi All,

I'm working on troubleshooting a LabVIEW client-server problem. Connections
between the clients and the server occasionally get dropped, for no seeming
reason. The software is installed at several different sites. Some sites
work well, with few drops. At a couple of sites, however, the rate of drops
appears to follow an almost exponential curve. Users start out experiencing
drops every few days, then hours, then it rapidly deteriorates to the point
where, as soon as a client app logs into the server app, the connection
dies. We've started to refer to these as "drop storms".

I recall another post I did, around mid 2003 (May-Sept timeframe), and
someone replied, either by the list or directly, but I can't seem to find
the email. The person replying spoke of troubleshooting a TCP/IP based
LabVIEW setup that also experienced drops, and after extensive network
sniffing, the trouble was traced to some hardware switch or router that was
several physical connections away. This component was doing something that
rippled over to the LabVIEW server machine and resulted in the
disconnections.

In addition, sometimes the server, during a "drop storm", seems to freeze up
or slow way down. We have had to restart/reboot the server and during the
time the server was down some of the clients didn't seem to see a TCP/IP
disconnection. ie, the LabVIEW primitives don't error out with an error.

So I think we are probably looking at two different problems. One that
causes the "storms", and another that results in LabVIEW not recognizing a
disconnection.

If the originator of the reply (or anyone else who has had similar
experiences) could get back to me I'd greatly appreciate it. Please CC me
directly as well as to the list, as I get the digest version of the list).

Thanks in advance,
Mike
