I posted the reply about the a lockup problem caused by a server located
several switches away on another part of the company network.

I found the problem by getting a sniffer and looking at network traffic.  A
packet sniffer is a program that records part or all of the network
traffic.  I downloaded several free ones and used the first one I got to
work.  I do not have the name of that product handy, but I will send it to
you as soon as I can.

Your problem sounds a little different.  During the "packet storm" I was
experiencing, all network traffic by any of the affected machines was
completely stopped.  If your problem is related to outside traffic, a
packet sniffer may help you pinpoint the offender.
