Full Text Of Bennett
Statement
WASHINGTON (April 16) -- The following is the
text of a statement issued by Robert S. Bennett, the
attorney for President Bill Clinton, regarding the
decision by Paula Jones to appeal the dismissal of
her sexual harassment case:
"Judge Wright's decision was correct on both the law
and the facts. Her thorough and thoughtful opinion
was issued after a full review of all the evidence
developed in extensive and far-reaching discovery.
"Therefore, we are confident that the appellate court
will not permit Paula Jones and her supporters to
pursue this case.
"The President has stated unequivocally that Ms.
Jones's allegations are false. An independent judge
held that Ms. Jones's rights were not violated and
that no rational juror could find for the plaintiff.
It is
unfortunate that our legal system can nonetheless
continue to be abused by Ms. Jones's political and
financial supporters who wish to harm the President
and who, for their own private agendas, disregard
the best interests of the American people."
