Point taken. Maybe this could be changed for FPC too - seeing that the
resulting executables will have for much better code (as you said)?

Slackware, SuSE etc all ship i686 executables as standard - they don't
seem to cause any problems. God help the person still running a 486 or
P2/P3 system - even my PDA and mobile phone has more processing power
than that!
