A system doesn't "work" if it corrupts data if you get a power cut. This is something they can remedy by moving to a more open platform, as many organisations have, which will give the software (and hardware) a much more guaranteed future. I wish I was a hobby programmer, then I won't have to make ridiculous concessions to ignorant customers. Then I won't have to rush software out the door before I'm happy with it. Then I won't get my arm twisted to support platforms that hurt my industry and profession.
