I've been following the talk about Lazarus' visibility, and marketing.

Me too, of course.

There is a VERY important fact you must be aware of:

The number of Free Pascal and Lazarus developers is VERY SMALL.
What is more, this is a HOBBY, not their source of income.
(Although probably some of us would like it to be so.)
Speak for yourself! I'm pulling around $1k USD / month using Lazarus for contract work for both Linux and Windows. Some you've heard of (TruckBites), others are more VAR integration work. Certainly not my primary source of income, but it helps feed and clothe the kids.

This cannot be stressed enough:
We barely have time to keep developing Lazarus/FPC.

Indeed, those who have been posting ideas should not interpret silence from the
lazarus team as if we think the ideas are bad; it's just that we can't do two
things at once. Considering the fact that we (probably) won't be the
marketeers, it would be bad for us to say how marketing should be done
(although it should be proper and sane of course).

In a previous life I was a VP of Marketing - what we need is not so much "marketing" but more Public Relations. Marketing implies an outflow of cash... PR doesn't necessarily. The other thing to be aware of is that the more we get into the limelight, the more Borland (Inprise, what's the name of the week?) will start breathing down our necks looking for patent/copyright violations. The core developers better be prepared for that.
