I think this problem is a problem that exists longer.
What is the (big) problem that gtk cuts all strings that have one or more
german umlauts in it ?
gtk2 dont drat the strings from the position of the char and gtk dont draw
the whole string.
also in runtime added Menueitems have width 0 on gtk and something like
width/20 on gtk2 ?!
