I hate hard tabs cause they tend to show differently at different editors
and the text formatting gets ruined esp. the comments/license blocks at the
start of a file)

In Delphi and Borland Pascal, there's one option to always use SPACES
instead of tabs and another called Smart Fill, where if TABS are enabled,
they will be used wherever enough consequtive spaces are detected in the
text. Also there's option to navigate inside TABS with the cursor (as if
they were many spaces) and also option on whether the cursor can move past
the end of a line or if it will wrap to next line (don't remember the names
of those options)

Right clicking inside the source code editor window will show those options
in Delphi
