Upgrading from 10.0 to 10.1 diddn't always give you a fine system.
That's what i read on the suse linux newslists.
Another thing was, that the new novell-zmd was badly broken.
Now that it is updated most people reported that the problems went away.
I didn't wait for the update for zmd.
Instead i used the smart package manager. This is working much better,
so i still use it.
I have looked for it, thanks very much for your piece of information. But, to day tghe truth I found a lot pacages named smart with mani version à+ a smart gui for each version: shall I download the one with the higher number and relative gui package?. I shall try anyway sooner or later I managed to installa Lazarus through Kpackage and it gave me no problems.
Look here for information on this:

I think if you install smart from the guru repository, you will get a
channel-list with it.

There is also a discussion on smart in german:

Hope this helps,

Sure! You've helped me a lot. Today's problem with SUSE is that when I log as a simple user i.e stefano, it loads no graphical environment neither GNOME nor KDE. When I choose KDE a warning message pops up saying taht the filke ICI.. and I do not remember the final letters is set as unwritable so I must 1) log in as root, 2) get me shown the hidden files in my home dir set ICI etc which strangely belongs to root; 3 change its owner and permissions and finally 4 re -login as stefano : only now I can see either GNOME or KDE as chosen loading. It seems tpoo me that there's must be something wrong with this last OpensSuse release!

Bye and thank you again

Stefano
