Sorry, I missed this bit. Why is firebird difficult to get running?
What issues did you have? We have installed it on loads of systems
here without any issues. Using Ubuntu, but I guess it is apt that
makes is so easy to install. If I remember correctly in only required
two packages to run (and that included the command line tools).
