One more problem is surely also the device -> PCS characterization, at least, if the "usual" CLUTs are used. A CLUT with 17 points results in 17^8 = 6975757441 CLUT enttries for 8 inks, which is pretty much :-O And even a low-resolution CLUT with 9 points requires 43046721 entries (corresponding to 82MB for 10-bit LUT entries). So I guess, it will also be rather necessary to use a model-based approach for AtoB characterization, instead of CLUTs.
