Actually, at one time, Sun seems to have been quite involved in ICC
CMS development.  That is why the key CMS header comes from Sun.
Modern Sun workstations includes CMS support in the display hardware.

Unless the CMS tables are supported directly by display hardware,
performance is significantly reduced since the CPU must be used to
transform the values.
