Epson prints with the NCA options are very dark. Of course, a profile should
compensate for that, but the problem is to first get a good scan of the (dark) target
print to build profiles.

The scanners I used were not able to properly scan the dark patches of the target. I
had no access to a good spectro. Consequently, the profiles were not too good for the
shadows.

The author of Profile Prism recommends profiling against sRGB instead of NCA in the
Epson driver and I have found this to help.

Subject: [Lcms-user] Epson printer drivers for Windows

[from another thread]

after _lots_ of experimentation with epson windows drivers (v5.x for the
2100,925,R800), I found what I believe to be the correct settings for
profile work (both printing test charts for calibration, and using the
generated ICC profiles) ...

for drivers versions that offer the choice of
    'no colour adjustment'
    or
    'ICM'
    or
    'other stupid epson stuff'
choose
    'no colour adjustment'

for drivers that offer
    'ICM'
    or
    'other stupid epson stuff'
choose
'ICM' and tick 'no colour adjustment'

oh, and _never_ use the ICC profiles that come with the drivers (eg,
EE_177__1.ICM)

for other settings, just pick ther paper type&size, print quality (I found
'best photo' to be the best choice as it was the most consistent between
prints), and turn off 'edge smoothing' as it does a really f'n dodgy job.

and lastly, don't forget to allow the test charts to dry for at least
several hours before shooting them with your spectro.
