If you are running Windows you might consider ProfilePrism. It is a scanner based system and therefore is not as accurate as a printer profiling system based on a colorspectrometer. But is is also way less expensive. Profile Prism ships with a file named lcms.dll so it appears that it is using the lcms libraries. You will also receive an IT8.7 target with the standard package and ProfilePrism customers can order additional IT8.7 targets for very reasonable prices. How good it works depends on your scanner and the scanner software. I get excellent results using my Canon LiDE 20 scanner and VueScan Pro. The LiDE 20 uses red, green and blue Light emitting diode illumination which greatly reduces the affects of metamerism and VueScan Pro allows me to capture the full range of values that the scanner is capable of. I always use raw scans when profiling a printer. I did not get good results using a scanner with a florescent light bulb but that scanner also did not have very good software and was not supported by VueScan. Printer profiling is significantly more difficult that profiling any other class of device. Scanners and cameras are trivial to profile compared to printers. I have found that profiling printers is one part science, one part art and at least one part skill/experience. So expect a significant learning curve. In the end the results are worth the effort. ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tell us your software development plans!
