IMO the blur should not be too weak in order to to smear all artifacts created by sharpening, JPEG artifacts, etc. I'd also apply the blur in a linear (gamma 1) color space, or if this is not possible, then I'd try to leave out pixels at/near high contrast edges, when establishing the color mapping (to avoid that pixels with a too large color difference are averaged in a non-linear space, and then used to establish the mapping). > I think I need to try it and see what kind of results I get. > > Do any of the lcms binary tools provide for creating a profile from 2 files? No. Lcms does not include any tools or functions to create profiles from scattered data. You also didn't tell what's the size of your (downsampled) images. A regression with a huge number of data points may be challenging too, depending on the model and algorithms being used.
