Hello,

as the original message seems to have been lost (I'm afraid I did not
post it correctly), here it is:

I posted about this on the GIMP bugzilla, and a developer said it could
interest the people around little cms. Basically, I created a screen
profile with the Pantone Huey (non pro version) on mac os x. When I try
to load it under Ubuntu in the Gimp 2.4 /release candidate 2, the name
of the profile is displayed as 'invalid UTF-8 string'. There is no way
to have the correct name displayed. Actually, I think this is even
related to a crash I experience in cinepaint: after I try to assign this
profile to the screen, cinepaint hangs. Subsequently, I often get a
crash when I try to access the preferences, with cinepaint mumbling
something icc related in the terminal:
cms_read_icc_profile_dir: Cannot stat icc profile
directory /usr/local/share/color/icccms_read_icc_profile_dir: Cannot
stat icc profile directory /home/ludovico/.color/icccinepaint fatal
error: sigsegv caught)
On the other hand, Bibble has no
problems with this profile under Linux.
Is there something wrong with the profiles created with the huey
software, or is this some kind of issue with lcms?

By the way, the discussion has gotten far too technical for me, but as I
understand it, there is a chance the problem might sit with lcms (and
not just GIMP)?

Many thanks,

Ludovico Fischer
