Hello. Recently we have a new requirement to store document in LDAP
directory. This is a piece of written paper scanned in black and white
(bitmap) with signature, received by fax, one for each contact person.

I think the best solution would be defining a new attribute using FAX
syntax (ID : 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.23).

AKBK LDAP schema browser give this explanation of this syntax:

Values in this syntax are encoded as if they were octet strings
containing Group 3 Fax images as defined in .

Yes it's true that it is a single dot after the word 'in'. The example
attribute using this syntax is Photo explained as this:

Note: Photo attribute values are encoded in G3 fax format with
        an ASN.1 wrapper.
The Photo attribute type specifies a "photograph" for an object.
This should be encoded in G3 fax as explained in recommendation
T.4, with an ASN.1 wrapper to make it compatible with an X.400
        BodyPart as defined in X.420.

But I googled around not being able to find a tool that I can use to
convert the fax (coming as png format) to fit the above requirement.
netpbm can convert image to raw g3 format, but don't seems to provide
information if it can be wrapped in ANS.1. A search of ANS.1 and image
toolkits provide very little information. rfc2159 seems to be
particularly about this issue but this RFC is referred to from too few
software's document too.

Can I safely store the document (bitmap including a signature) in LDAP
as raw g3 data without worrying breaking regulations?
