Hi,
1. The Firmware version was one of the reasons for Warm Migration.
2. I thought "Warm Migration" (with Solaris 11) could happen between different
architectures and not "Live". Haven't tried it.
Won't it take time to map the runtime data-structures of one machine with
the other if we Live Migrate?
3. HP introduced "Warm Migration" with IVM4.3 a month back tough they had "Live
Migration" with IVM4.2
   I don't know what their use-case is?

Thanks you for your quick responses !!!

Regards,
Rajesh

The best way of looking at "live" migration is a vastly improved version of
"warm" migration.
Instead of suspending the guest domain at the start of the migration, the
domain remains up and
running while the memory contents are copied to the target (and the source
machine tracks what
changes are being made in the guest domain during the migration so that those
bits can be resent)
Then for approx one second at the end the domain is suspended while the
remaining modified state is
copied.

There is no command line switch to ldm(1m) that would perform a "warm"
migration rather than a live
migration.

A warm migration can still happen with the 2.1 LDoms Manger if a live migration
is not possible
(e.g. if the systems had a downrev version of system firmware)

I'd be interested in hearing a reason why a user would prefer "warm" migration
over "live" migration
though.

Liam
