Thanks Mac. I agree with many of your comments, and your comments
about the list and the group LDSOSS are right on. I know "flamewars"
on LDSOSS can become sensitive issues because sometimes the issues,
especially those off-topic, are personal ones, so I'm going to ask
that the discussion on how one's wife should be treated stop. I do
highly recommend those that want to discuss this to try out the LDS
Marriages list on yahoogroups - there are some very smart people
there that I'm sure would love to discuss the LDS interpretation of
Marriage, but it is simply off-topic here and becoming too personal
with some people. Hopefully everyone can respect that. Thanks again
for everyone's comments on the matter - they have all been very
educational to me!
I do however like the discussion that has been going on about content
filtering. I think all of that is very pertinent to the purposes of
the group.
Cheers, :-)

FOR THE RECORD:
This so-called "list", as you put it, is nothing more than an
unauthorized, underground venue to undermine security and church
policy
with regard to the manipulation of sensitive data on the MLS church
system.
I do not want my name associated with this "list".
Good bye.
Hold on a minute here, before everyone goes flying off the handle.
This mailing list (no, it's not a 'so-called "list"') is a venue
conversation among a group of people sharing some common interests.
It is unauthorized, but who needs to authorize us to converse?
It is not underground. It's existence is public knowledge and
somewhat widely known, including by people who work for the Church
in HQ.
It's purpose is _not_ to undermine security or church policy
regarding _anything_. In fact, I think you'll find that almost
every time when someone has suggested doing so, someone else has
reminded them to repect the policies put forward by local and
general leadership of the Church.
If you choose not to associate with us, that's fine, it's your
choice. But don't go storming out of here with your "holier than
thou" hat on. I would dare say that most of us have similar goals
in our participation here as you do (or did).
P.S.
Spencer W Kimball said that fathers preside in the family, not as a
matter of being the most qualified or the most worthy, but
according to
divine law and appointment.
We preside as fathers, yes, but we preside as equals to our wives.
As a father, presiding in the home, it is not "misogynistic" to
protect
and safe-guard not only my children, but also my wife from spiritual
ruin. It is not a matter of trust, or will power. It is a matter
of duty
and responsibility.
Your wife doesn't need "safe-guarding" any more than you do. If you
both agree to set up filtering and accountability aids, that's
great. But if you're doing it without her knowledge, consent, or
agreement, and if you're not setting it up for yourself as well as
for her and the kids, I would humbly suggest you're doing it for
the wrong reasons and/or in the wrong way.
The brethren have counseled us to place our home computers in a
common
area. Why? To monitor activity on the computer! It is in that
spirit
that I use spyware to monitor all computer activity. It is not
unrighteous dominion.
Nobody, that I saw, called it unrighteous dominion. The way you
talked about it, it sounded like you were quite concerned about
your wife and it gave me the impression that you were being
excessive in your desire to control her.
The spyware incidentally, is also good when the computer crashes
and you
want to see exactly what went wrong. Please don't take a cheap-
shot at
me and say that this is some kind of advertisement!
I don't think it was intended as a cheap shot. The way you promoted
the particular product that you happen to use made it sound like
you were trying to sell it to us, and would benefit by doing so.
That may have been unintentional, but it was interesting.
As Satan targets the family, do you think he could focus in on your
wife? Remember the Garden of Eden.
Women are no more succeptible to temptation than men are, and some
would even say that it's the other way around.
Once again, good bye, this is my last post!
If that's the way you want it, so be it. But you're welcome here if
you decide to come back.
Thanks,
Mac
