I started putting together a small, simple PHP class (that uses MySQL only right
now) to grab one or more verses from the database and return them.

I'm not much into creating third-party applications for the lds-scriptures
project, since the whole purpose of the project is to be a backend for other
projects, and because I can think of a lot of uses for it. So, I don't think
I'll be developing this too heavily, but it is a good start for someone to poke at.
