> 3. Similar questions for vcard...
Hi Pete-
Here's how our ward uses vCards. I can attach a sample .vcf file if it
would be helpful. We include the following per individual:
photo (as posted on the LUWS)
preferred name
ward name (for sorting/grouping in your desktop address book)
primary AND secondary phone (w/ types)
address
birthday (w/ year)
In the NOTE, we include:
Membership number
current callings (w/date sustained)
assigned Home Teachers
(VT'ers and Temple Expr. Date haven't been asked for yet)
These are created by some scrappy perl of mine that parses the
Membership.csv, Organization.csv, and HomeTeaching.csv exports from MLS.
They're actually an intentional ugly mix between .vcf v2.1 and v3.0
standards (for support for more apps). http://www.imc.org/pdi/
We get phone number types by adding an eleventh digit in the phone number
in MLS; an "H", "W", or "C" representing home, work, or cell respectively.
Because they contain sensitive information, these are only distributed to
Bishopric and PEC members. A stripped down version would be helpful to
general membership. The "distribution" is currently the bottleneck. To
have downloadable vCards from the LUWS would be oh so good!!
Some of the very handy side-effects of these vCards are A) It turns your
desktop Address Book into a quite powerful search of MLS data. (eg. All
who lives on a street, shares a zip code, doesn't have a calling, etc...),
and B) Sync them with your handheld of choice.
