I did something like this using Google Earth. I transformed a list
of addresses to coordinates using a service on the web, then I
manually created the KML file merging the ward list. The other
service was more accurate, but still not aligned perfectly, on the
E/W axis. I think that is G.E.'s fault though. Their own data is
inconsistent between the images and street info. I don't think that
they have corrected the nadir (elongation) effects for most of the
images.
I have been wondering what the geocodes were, and if they were
actual Lat and Lon. If so what format, decimal?
What was the name of the other service you used? I'd like to try
that too and see if the data for my ward is any better. I think I'll
also try the Yahoo geocoder.
Oh, and yes, the geocodes from geocoder.us are lat and lon in decimal
format.
