Regarding this, I must admit that my all time favorite version of The
Book of Mormon to read is the replica of the original printing of the
book which is distributed by the reorganized church. It is in paragraph
format, without verse numbers at all. This makes it read much more like
a novel, which I far prefer in cases when I am reading straight through
it.

The advantage of verse numbers is detailed cross-referencing within the
scriptures and identification of textual extracts when communicating
with others.

I've also seen Bible editions that read in paragraph format, but also
included verse numbers. I didn't like this quite as much, but perhaps it
could be adapted to work better.
