Short of picking up a new drive (you can get 250 GB for $100 at
Sam's Club these days), my suggestion would be to go with one of
the RAID arrangements you've listed, install Linux, and run your
Windows + PAF in VMWare within Linux.  Given that you can get
either VMWare Player or VMWare Server for free, and it's fairly
easy to find or create a blank virtual machine where you can
install your Windows, that should take care of things well.

There is one caveat, of course: as far as I know, VMWare still
doesn't support DirectX for gaming.  Neither does any other 
virtual machine system.  But if you're really just using Windows
for PAF and maybe some school work, that shouldn't be an issue.
