We haven't begun to look at performance yet. We have some ideas on how to improve that. We have some similar ideas to what you've expressed below. Keep watching and keep sending feedback. >>> m0smith <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 10/7/2006 10:56:10 AM >>> I did get it to work. It is very important to pick the correct RIN number. With a large GEDCOM, (4000+ people) the performance was a bit slow and it couldn't zoom out far enough to see the whole chart.
I really love the concept. Some of the things I like: * When you click on a box, it lights up yellow with all the descendants. With is quite interesting and useful because the smart tool does not follow expected structure of a pedigree chart from one generation to the next. * Its fun from a visual prospective. Its cool to see how far back your lines go and how to get there. As I mentioned before, I have been working on a proect to give a visual overview to a entire family history database. Some of the things that I would like to be able to do with a visual tool like this one is: * Find the "holes" in my tree. Where does each line stop * Visual! ly find "duplicates". The idea is to present the data in such a way that any duplicates or possible duplicates show up. * Navigation. Finding your way quickly around the entire database. Your tool goes a long way toward making this happen * Visual data analysis - Plot various types of 2D and 3D graphs using various attributes from the data. For example, birthplace plotted against surname against birthdate. It could be used to show anomolies which end up being interesting in family history research.
