Couldn't agree more. The problem lies in the fact that email addresses
and preferred names are not sync'ed with MLS like phone numbers and
addresses are. I would also add to the achilles the fact that only
individuals, not Admins, can subscribe/unsubscribe email addresses to
specific Email Broadcast groups. These are both on the Suggestions for
Ward Websites wiki and will hopefully not fall on deaf ears (blind
eyes?). Until these limitations are addressed, I suspect units will
continue to stretch the "no ward email groups" policy, simply because
there's no good alternative.
What is really annoying is when you get an individual who signed up for
every mailing, and then entered a bad email address. As the ward
webmaster, you get a bounced email notice for every calendar event that
gets sent out, for every bad email address.
Even if you override the account, via record number / confirmation date,
you can't delete an email address. Evidently, some use-case deficient
Javascript wannabe in Salt Lake never considered that you could have
access to the internet without having a valid email address.
So I end up having to unsubscribe the person from every mailing list,
then enter [EMAIL PROTECTED] as the email address. Unfortunately, this
process forces me to change their password.
However, it will come as no surprise to folks on this list that I have
yet to have a single one of these members notice that they can't log
into their account anymore.
