Yes, I was referring to the wiki on ldsoss.org. Add your suggestions
here: http://ldsoss.org/index.php/Suggestions_for_Ward_Websites

My worry is that the list of suggestions is getting so long that the most
critical ones get diluted. In my experience, the most critical needs are
1) support for individual phone numbers like cell or work (right now it
only supports one number per household) and 2) synchronization of email
addresses between the lds.org and MLS, allowing clerks or web admins to
enter and manage email subscriptions. Those are the two biggest factors
that make leaders in my own ward discount the usefulness of the ward
website system.

I'm one of the biggest proponents in my ward and stake for consolidating
info in MLS, abandoning rouge spreadsheets, and using the ward web sites.

It's great how a member's photo and temple recommend expiration dates now
travels with the membership record from ward to ward. I wish addresses,
phones, emails, and preferred names were synced between lds.org and MLS
and traveled the same way. Unfortunately it's quite easy for clerks to
loose phone, email, and addresses when moving or requesting records in
MLS. Also, allowing members the ability to update ALL their conatct info,
address and phone included, via 'Update Profile' and clerks via MLS would
sure ease the huge burden on the membership clerks and group/quroum/RS
secretaries of maintaining accurate records.

On the upside, I've noticed that there have been some recent and much
appreciated improvements to the ward websites. Names are now case
sensitive and you can download the directory in .csv and vCard formats!
Thanks to whomever slipped these through.

Aside from Family History, aren't MLS and the Local Unit Web Sites the
biggest areas where efforts from Open Source Developers would be
appreciated and furthest reaching, even more than Scouting/YM/YW tools?
Does anyone know if the Church will ever be in a position to open this up
for help from open source developers eager to help?
