I created a gmail account and added that address to the main page for
our ward website. The gmail account is setup to forward all incoming
mails to the mailbox I stare at all day, so I'm usually pretty timely
with responses. We have received many messages to that address and
because of it have made it easier for people moving into our area (or
considering) to get info. I also added comments on the main page that
have contact info to our EQ president. I'd rather he get any incoming
questions and filter those (if any) that need to go to the Bishop. I'll
take advantage of any freeform fields I can....

Subject: Re: [Ldsoss] Wards and Stakes
My biggest complaint about the current setup of stake and ward
sites is that is doesn't let members from outside the stake get any
contact data.
For example, I have a friend who was recently baptized and going
away to college. I was able to find what ward he would be in, but there
was no real contact data, only the office phone number. I don't know
about you, but I've seen those answering machines sit around for weeks
if not months before anybody thinks to check them for messages.
I run the web sites for my home ward and the branch my wife & I
are assigned to, and I have my e-mail address on the front page so that
people can contact me if they need information. I usually get one or
two contacts a month, maybe more during student move-in season. It can
be very frustrating if you have to deal with letters and phone calls
that will at best be returned the following week.
IMHO, if a member is logged in, they should be able to access
the Bishopric and EQ/HP/RS presidency of any unit. Even if it is just a
link that will allow them to send an e-mail without knowing what e-mail
address it is going to would be better than the current situation.
