I guess I wasn't clear; a German (?) fellow picked it up, and it is 
under active development.  The bridge patches required for 2.2 are 
now an integral part of the 2.4 kernel.

Part of my goal is to create a bridge on a disk - so I (and others) 
can use it for "protecting" a honey-pot.
