This is so, following the instructions which specify the latest kernel from 
the source.

No trouble, for what I have in mind (dhclient) a 2.4.18 will be ok.

I noted that from the web page although the instructions before say so.

Jacques, I just have 2.2 kernel on my desktop but would like to compile 
dhclient and/or possibly network drivers for my bering laptop which is 
unable to get a dhcp lease due to the 4 byte bug. If by chance you have 
read leaf-user there is a little unresolved thread.
