Hello Oliver, Buildtool was never fully used for creating packages for the stable 2.2.x series, a lot of packages where still build "by hand". Buildtool had untill recently being "work in progress".
With the upcoming Bering-uClibc beta version things have changed, we are now using buildtool to create each and every package. The kernel version change was not the only change in buildtool, a lot of package setups had some bugfixes in this process and also buildenv itself had some fixes. That means that there is no "stable" buildtool for the "stable" buc v2.2.3. Having said that, it should be no problem to create/compile packages with the latest buildtool, even for the 2.2.x series. As long as the packages you want to create do not depend on a particular kernel version. Packages that do depend on a kernel version are f.e. iptables and specific kernel modules. But most packages created with the latest buildtool will both run on the buc with kernel 2.4.26 as buc with kernel 2.4.29. If you run into some kind of problem, please let us know.
