Rick, As you may have noticed, I have been bombarding the LRP mailing list with questions about setting up PCMCIA and an Orinoco card. I posed the same question to the list (can cardmgr be circumvented?) and the two responses I received indicated (to me anyway) that it was probably not worth it to try. Apparently cardmgr passes information back to the pcmcia card driver about I/O space, etc. Kelly Edward Murray [[EMAIL PROTECTED]] mentioned that he runs cardmagr NOT in daemon mode, but just once to set up the card. He has a working floppy based Orinoco setup which can be downloaded from his website (http://www.netnimble.com/wrip/). I am attempting to run his image now to see if I can learn anything from it to help me get my Compact Flash based Orinoco router working. I would like to put together a stripped to the bones .lrp pcmcia/Orinoco package. -bret -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Sent: Saturday, February 17, 2001 12:12 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Leaf-hardware] DoC success; PCMCIA, cardmgr question Just dropping a note to whoever's interested, I've got the M-Systems 8mb DiskOnChip 2000 that came in the PC104 box so generously donated by Scott C. Best to boot LRP 2.9.8 using the howto by Johan Ugander. Thank you, Scott and Johan. Now I'll be able to easily work on getting PCMCIA working. I have a PCMCIA 10bt (I think ne2k-compatible) and a Lucent Wavelan card to get working. First, though, will be to get PCMCIA support _gracefully_ setup. Now, question: Can the cardmgr be circumvented? My understanding of cardmgr is that it's purpose is to detect insertion and removal of cards; however, for _most_ LEAF purposes, it would seem unnecesary to have that functionality. I'll probably be working on this for the next four hours or so, and maybe a few hours tomorrow morning (EST). If you're around, feel free to meet me in ICQ (my ICQ number is in my .sig) or at irc.angrypacket.com channel #31337, and help me figure things out. :) -- rick -- A mind is like a parachute... it only works when it's open.
