Actually, the code checking for the existance of DEFAULT_GW are part of the
if_up () procedure, and assign DEFAULT_GW from <iface>_DEFAULT_GW, so
eth0_DEFAULT_GW is the correct parameter to use.  The code being taken out
of context is admittadly confusing.
