Title: RE: [Leaf-user] serial console

Ray's absolutely right.  The basic windows terminal emulator, HyperTerminal, has been included in all versions windows at least since Win95.  When setting up the connection, set the "Connect using:" to "Direct to Com 1" and then  connect serial port 1 to the Dachstein box with a null-modem cable.  Match the bps, data bits, parity, and stop bits on both ends (normally 9600, 8, none, and 1) and you're set.

If by any chance you didn't include Hyper Terminal in your original Win95 installation, and you can't find the floppies for your CD-less laptop, don't despair.  You can copy the hypertrm.exe file along with hypertrm.dll and hticons.dll from a Win98 machine and they should work.  I remember doing this once in the past in an identical situation.
