You could, but you shouldn't. The LEAF firewall makes a very good first line of defense, but *ANY* "border router" firewall (ie a firewall running on a machine at the perimeter of your internal network) cannot tell the difference between "normal" web browsing and packets sent on behalf of mal-ware, spy-ware, e-mail viruses, &c. The place to intercept this sort of traffic is on the machine creating it, where tools can look at the specific programs allowed to send/recieve traffic from the internet, and clamp down on those that are not allowed. I personally run zone-alarm "behind" my Dachstein firewall, mainly so I will get a pop-up whenever a new program, installer, data-mining applet, whatever gets launched on my machine without my prior knowledge. Also, remember, a packet-filtering firewall won't (and to a great extent, can't) protect you from things like e-mail viruses, or network viruses coming from *inside* the firewall (ie your son, wife, &c opens an e-mail with a nasty network aware virus payload, and your entire internal network is instantly infected, rather than just the one system). Security is all about defense in depth :-) Charles Steinkuehler http://lrp.steinkuehler.net http://c0wz.steinkuehler.net (lrp.c0wz.com mirror) ------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: ThinkGeek at http://www.ThinkGeek.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ leaf-user mailing list: [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user SR FAQ: http://leaf-project.org/pub/doc/docmanager/docid_1891.html
