I had the same problem with my setup. It was actually locking up our AP everytime I did an upload through scp! Pretty awesome actually.
I originally thought it was the cards or something and upgraded the firmware and everything. Then I found out the drivers had that issue, and as soon as I moved them to wavelan2_cs driver they didn't come up again. So what I did was move all the pertinent lines from /etc/pcmcia/config to /etc/pcmcia/wavelan2.conf (i think thats where they are... not looking at the box right now sorry) and made the modifications from orinoco_cs to wavelan2_cs and they all worked perfectly. I actually used Buffalo, Avaya, and Orinoco cards and they all worked like a charm with that setup. Hope this helps!
