I just went through this process with setting up a DOC for Peewee Linux. For recent kernels you have to use M-Systems older (v4.2) DFORMAT utility. I got the same error message during bootup when the DOC was formatted with DFORMAT 5.1.4. While nftl_format will work after DFORMATting with v5.1.4, the bios within the DOC seemed messed up in my hands.
