The short answer is "yes".
As for Bering have you looked at the very good installation and user
guideS?
You will also find a Dachstein has a howto for installing to a hard drive.

The next question should be why use such a large drive unless write
protectable? It could be use to load and launch an attact from if not
configured correctly. The leaf-users mailing list should have more
infomation if you care to read more.
Using a cdrom might be a good idea instead of hard drive, use can use a
floppy disk to hold configuration changes if desired.

I do hope you will try a leaf version and enjoy using it, and usually can
obtain good help from this list, if you have questions.
