Thanks, I didn't know about the two-floppy mode. I may try that instead.
I actually prefer booting from floppy, rather than from HD.  I was
thinking of just locating a few lrps on the HD and using something like
PKGPATH=/dev/fd0:msdos,/dev/hda1:msdos

I may want to try that instead, for example, to locate var/log on the
HD, etc.
Does there need to be a fstab entry for the hd? If so it would be nice
to know the right params.
 
As I say, the hdsupp.lrp loaded fine, but I got no lrcfg menu item for
it. Would hdsupp.lrp be necessary for the scheme above with a few lrps
and log files on the HD?

I tried a floppy version of bering uclibc (2.1).
I want a few more packages then will fit on the floppy, and the Aptiva
won't boot from CD. Hdsupp loaded, but I find no config entry in lrcfg
