I recently migrated my Leaf ucLibc with three-interface shorewall to a Soekris 4801. I used a 512MB compact flash that came with a Canon camera. Took some time to sort out the little details (add serial support, make CF bootable with fdisk, etrc.) but it works really well. It was irrational to migrate to the Soekris because the 486 was working well - but I love reducing the power consumption from 40 watts to under 10 watts and the Soekris is very cool (pun intended). So CF is causing no problems so far. The problem of not unmounting causing corruption can affect any media, it's not a CF problem.
