Hi, I'm building a couple firewalls mainly for VPN use. *My* current Bering uClibc version is 2.2.x (I think) vintage. SO I'm a little rusty:;-)
I noitced that there is an image for creating USB stick based systems. When I tried the procedure from my SUSE 9.0 system it didn't work for me. DD completed fine but the target system reported a corrupt boot sector. So I created a bootable USB stick using an older procedure using a HP formating utility and some DOS system files I had saved under my old leaf directories. Sure enough the system booted fine to DOS from the stick. So I tried the new DD image again and this time I received a message saying there was no operating system files. I seem to remember using syslinux to do all this before. I also, seem to remember copying files from a CD to the stick. Can this method still be used? If so, are there still directions, lying about, on how to do it? Also, there are so many options for DD. Is it possible that I just need to add some additional options to the DD command? Like a block size for example. The write took quite some time to complete but DD reported no errors. Is there a checksum I can use to chck my download? The stick I'm using is Memorex 128 USB2.0 stick. Like I said, it did boot to dos for me so I know the BIOS is configured correctly.
