Frankly, the MS-DOS filesystem 8x3 limitation is a bit of a pain and an 
anachronism in this day and age.  If we could make the CF card one big 
jffs2 filesystem, we'd be better off.  Unfortunately, grub doesn't 
understand jffs2 yet.

However, after reading more about CF cards already doing wear leveling, 
I'm questioning whether jffs2 makes sense other than for its intrinsic 
size qualities.
