As far as I can tell (as always, I can only speak for myself), none of the "core developers" has that need (or the hardware available) - so unless somebody with the need and the hardware picks up the ball, you can complain as much as you want, but nothing will change. That's how open source works (in my mind) - those with the means and the need provide what's needed to meet their needs. If we had more people providing something they're looking for, the project would be a lot further.
