Vladimir, Sam Leffler (author of the linux driver for the atheros) mentioned to me today that it is unstable, though, he has not detailed why this is the case. Furthermore, it is not clear whether the problem lies within the binary portion or source portion of the driver, or within the firmware. At any event, you are likely right in suggesting that it is too early to use Atheros in production mode.
