Hello Ledger community! I am in search for a tool to track my expenses and plan my budget, and from what I've read in the manuals, I think Ledger is going to suit me just fine.
But I'd like to input data in somewhat greater detail than the manuals recommend. Specifically, if I spent $200 in the supermarket, I'd like the record to be not just 'groceries $50 diary $50 aclohol $50 desserts $50', I'd rather write down the whole receipt in detail, including price per unit, quantity and brand name of that delicious stinky cheese. That way, each line would go to its own account and I'd have some more information to play with. I don't mind typing all of this in, I think I can write some simple script to take the input and transform it to Ledger files or maybe tinker with Org mode table export or something. It's not going to be too big files, I expect less than a thousand lines a month, around 400 actually. The question is, where in Ledger file such information belongs: - Price per unit - Quantity - Brand name >From what I've read, I can go with named commodities or with typed metadata, which approach should I take? Maybe someone is already (ab)using Ledger this way and could share some ideas? Thanks in advance for your responses. -- --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ledger" group.
