I think you may be interested in the way I do it: I defined an automatic transaction that applies to tagged postings, as such:
= %/plus_taxes/ $account 0.14975 Dettes:Taxe:TPS -0.05 Dettes:Taxe:TVQ -0.09975 (Sorry for the French names, I'm from Quebec, Canada) I then enter the amount without taxes when I invoice my client, with the 'plus_taxes' tag: 2015-01-01 * MyClient ; Facture #1 Actifs:CC:MyClient $5000.00 ; :plus_taxes: Revenus:Services Then my Accounts Receivable account for that client shows the correct amount he owes me ($5000 plus taxes, which is $5748.75 in my case). Then when I get paid, I just enter that transaction normally: 2015-01-02 * MyClient Actifs:Chèque $5748.75 Actifs:CC:MyClient My bank account reflects the amount that's in Ledger, and I keep track of how much I owe the government in the Dettes:Taxes category.
