I will admit that when I started running various commands in ledger using $ ledger reg 9808 -f /some/file/location.dat as a kind of base I was quite surprised to see that everything I wanted was already available without me needing to change anything. So I looked at: 1. $ ledger reg 9808 -f /some/file/location.dat 2. $ ledger reg 9808.10 -f /some/file/location.dat 3. $ ledger reg 9808.10.01 -f /some/file/location.dat 4. $ ledger reg 9808.10.01.02-f /some/file/location.dat 5. $ ledger reg 9808.10.01.03 -f /some/file/location.dat So I was able to see all the entries in account 9808 (with a complete list by date with an amount and a running total), then adding the first level of sub-account and I was able to see a list (albeit shorter - a subset of the previous list with the same qualities), adding the second level of sub-account now resulted in on a single transaction being listed and using the third level of sub-account returned a null set - - - - perfect!!!! (Account # 9808 is one of only quite a few accounts - - - some accounts have over 50 indicated sub-accounts and its all easily done using my system for granularity - - - huge bonus that!) I wasn't expecting things to work so well nor so easily. I am no programmer so I didn't really understand how to ask for what I wanting using ledger but when Mr Craig very generously offered a possibility - -- -well I am off to the races - - - at least in this area - - - grin!. I will be working on developing some kind of 'mini' programs to facilitate entering items where currency conversions take place and also for breaking purchases into multiple accounts (also with different taxes going sometimes hither and sometimes yon) as that will hugely help anyone who is not 'math' friendly get reliable consistent results (this is to enable me to hire someone to do data entry for me - - - I'm not fond of the entering process - - grin!). Then I need to figure out some way for using ledger for accounts receivable with aging and tracking and at that point I have found my version of the grail - - a record keeping system that is flexible, response, supportive (thanks to you all!!!) and it works. With thanks for not only providing this product but also for the journey and for allowing me to be a part of this - - - Dee -- --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ledger" group.
