Not sure I understand the need to maintain all the perl dependencies.
Will Gentoo not allow you to just run cpan and install those
dependencies required?  I always thought that just using cpan as part
of any install that had Perl module dependencies would be a more
elegant approach anyway.  That's what I do on any system.  Install
Perl base, then cpan all modules I need as needed.
