I presume Barnsley will have the commemorative DVD of their biggest night in
the shops soon

Subject: [LU] Barnsley report

Well we guessed  it was likely to be an up and down season and after the
euphoria of Millwall and 3 wins on the bounce this was down to earth with a
huge bang.
Pre match I joined lots of other Leeds fans in the Metrodome where a couple
of bars had been set up inside the actual gym - bizarre, bit reminiscent of
the old school discos.
Once in the ground we were packed with the majority of Leeds fans behind the
goal but our huge following also spread along the side too. Barnsely sent
out 6 or 8 chubby chavettes who we thought were cheerleaders but they just
stood in the cold and wet with one leg delicately placed in front of the
other and provided a guard of honour for the players who came out to a huge
roar as we got behind the team. Sam started instead of Watt and business as
usual for the rest. The game was played in blustery conditions with a huge
wind in our faces. After 2 or 3 minutes we got a corner and as Kilkenny hit
it about a foot off the ground a lad behind me shouted "that is fu**ing
awful" but was soon choking on his words as it was met first time by Howson
and smashed into the net from just inside the area. The perfect start.
We continued to press and Naylor headed an easy chance over and we looked
comfortable and we starting to expect to at least hold on if not double our
lead to half time. Then disaster a quick break from them and Bessone was all
at sea and missed 2 chances to tackle the man and get it clear but it was
pulled back and slotted home.Mistakes get punished at this level !
1 - 1 at half time and we deserved to be in front and felt if we continued
like we had  we would still win.
We started brightly (Hughes soon replaced Bessone) and the ball pinged ac
cross their goal with no-one being able to get a final touch. Then another
break, this time Connolly at fault and he and Higgs ended up in a heap with
the Barnsley player as the ball rolled to an unmarked player who turned it
into an empty net.
Minutes later a corner was palmed away by Higgs and the Barnsley player
volleyed it in from a hard angle - cracking goal and effectively game over.
Collins then headed into his own net when attempting to clear and a Barnsley
player was allowed to go the from the half way line without a challenge and
then shoot unhindered from the edge of the box as we crumbled big time.
Some little consolation as a through ball from Kilkenny found Somma who
lashed it home with power to give us something to cheer.
Only good news on the day Paynter, Faye and Snoddy all did 90minutes in a
behind closed doors friendly.
Overall nowhere near good enough.
It is a learning curve at the moment and we need to learn quickly Dave
