I’ve always looked at the Championship as the least predictable league of the
four, in that in recent years there seem to have been generally 1 or 2 fairly
runaway teams at the top and two looking like relegation fodder with the
remaining teams often being separated by not too many points. This has meant
that a run of a couple of wins can have you in the playoffs, whereas a few
losses would drag you into a relegation battle, meaning that very few games end
up as “nothing to play for” ones. Makes for an interesting season.

Something I noticed last night was that although we lost, other teams around us
also had bad nights (Cardiff losing to Leicester, Ipswich, Norwich and Burnley
losing too) and it felt like one of the many Saturdays in the run in last
season , where we lost but the damage was minimised by the others around us
also losing.

In many ways I hope it acts as a wakeup call, though I agree that the defence
is still a worry with not too many solid options yet. Woodgate on loan anyone? J
